Ingredients and substitutions

  • Chicken wings – skinless wings will make the recipe healthier. You can also use boneless skinless chicken.
  • Sour cream – plain Greek yogurt isn't as tangy but will still taste great with the blue cheese dip.
  • Blue cheese – you could also substitute for gorgonzola (another type of blue cheese) or feta.
  • Buffalo sauce – you can make your own using hot sauce, garlic powder and butter with vinegar for extra tang.
  • BBQ sauce – a combination of ketchup, light brown sugar, white wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and paprika will give the same taste.
  • Butter – swap out the melted butter for a neutral oil like canola or vegetable oil.
  • Celery & carrot sticks – cut up your favourite veggies like bell peppers, cucumber or cauliflower.

Recipe Tips and Variations

Here's how you can customize your air fryer chicken wings for any craving or occasion!

  • Use baking powder: Toss the wings with a small amount of baking powder (not baking soda) to help achieve that golden, crispy texture.
  • Flip halfway through: Turn the wings over halfway through cooking for even browning.
  • Garlic parmesan wings: Toss with melted butter, minced garlic, and grated Parmesan cheese after air frying.
  • Asian-inspired wings: Use a mix of soy sauce, hoisin, garlic, and sesame oil for a flavourful glaze.
  • Honey garlic wings: Coat the wings in a sticky honey garlic glaze for a sweet-savory twist.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to preheat my air fryer before cooking chicken wings?

Yes, preheating your air fryer ensures it reaches the optimal temperature for cooking. This'll result in a crispier texture and even cooking. Skipping this step can lead to unevenly cooked wings.

How do I prevent my wings from sticking to the air fryer basket?

Lightly coat the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray or a small amount of oil before placing the wings inside. This helps prevent sticking and makes for easier cleanup.

How can I make the wings extra crispy?

Pat the wings dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Using baking powder in your seasoning can also help making them extra crispy. Try cooking at a higher temperature towards the end.

How many calories are in air fryer chicken wings?

Air fryer chicken wings are a lot healthier than the ones you get at your favourite wing spot. These ones have just 295 calories, whereas popular restaurant versions can have up to 700 calories.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings

What to serve with this dish

Here are some of the side dishes that would enhance the flavors and turn crispy air fryer chicken wings into a complete meal!

  • Veggies: Serve with crunchy celery, carrot sticks, or cucumber slices for a refreshing side.
  • Cornbread or biscuits: Warm, buttery sides like cornbread muffins or fluffy biscuits make a great addition.
  • Rice or quinoa: Add a grain-based side for a heartier meal.
  • Onion rings: For a fun pairing, onion rings are always a hit.

How to store and reheat

Store: Place leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat: Reheat the wings in the air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 5-6 minutes.

Freeze: Freeze cooked wings in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Reheat frozen wings in the air fryer at 375°F for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

These Healthy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries with chipotle dipping sauce are the ultimate fall side dish, and they're SO crispy!

Overhead shot of sweet potato fries with a side of dipping sauce

Every time I make these sweet potato fries, I'm reminded that I don't make them nearly enough. They get WAY crispier than they do in the oven and even take on a smoky flavour, I just LOVE them!!!

Why you'll love this recipe

  • Healthy side dish: Satisfy your fries cravings with these healthy sweet potato fries.
  • Super crispy: They're made extra crispy in the air fryer – no deep frying required!

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Sweet potatoes – you can use frozen sweet potato fries for a faster option.
  • Olive oil – or another neutral cooking oil like avocado oil.
  • Smoked paprika – regular paprika or chili powder would also be good.
  • Garlic powder – try onion powder instead or leave out altogether.

Chipotle dipping sauce

You could just buy chipotle mayo from the store but I like to make this healthier dip using sour cream and chipotles instead.

  • Sour cream – use low-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
  • Minced chipotle in adobo sauce – try adding smoked paprika and/or BBQ sauce instead, or mince up some 2 pickled jalapenos for a different flavour.

Recipe tips

Make the best sweet potato fries every time with my expert tips:

  • Cut the potatoes evenly: Cut into uniform 1-inch thick fries so the fries cook evenly.
  • Preheat the air fryer: This will ensure they cook at a high temperature and get super crispy.
  • Flip halfway through: Gently flip so the fries cook on each side.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my sweet potato fries soggy?

If your fries are soggy, the air fryer basket was likely overcrowded. Cook them in a single layer to avoid any sogginess and cook in 2 batches if needed.

Can I use frozen fries instead?

You can use frozen fries if you want, but you'll need to cook them longer (probably an extra 5 minutes).

Is using an air fryer healthy?

Making sweet potatoes in the air fryer is way healthier than deep frying them. You'll still get that amazing crispiness without the extra calories.

Can I make them in the oven?

Yes! Cook at 425 F for 12-15 minutes per side. But you really can't beat the crispiness of cooking them in the air fryer.

Serving suggestions

These sweet potato fries are the best side dish! Here are some options on what to serve them with:

Storing and reheating

Storing: Store leftover fries in the fridge for 4-5 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the preheated air fryer for 4-6 minutes at 400°F, flipping halfway through.

Freezing: Flash freeze the cooked fries so they don't stick together (you can do this just by adding them to a sheet pan then removing and adding to a freezer bag) and freeze for 3 months. Reheat from frozen in the air fryer for 10 minutes at 350°F.

Tips for the best chicken nuggets

Here are some of my top tips for getting the best air fryer chicken nuggets every time:

  • Use panko bread crumbs: They have larger and crunchier flakes so you get extra-crispy outsides. Cornflakes or rice cereal will also work well.
  • Dredge the chicken: After soaking the chicken in buttermilk, dredge it well before tossing it in the dry mixture.
  • Pre-heat the air fryer: Don't skip this step! Preheat the air fryer for 8 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit before cooking the nuggets so they get nice and crispy.
  • Cook in a single layer: Make sure to cook the nuggets in just one layer in the air fryer basket. You don't want them to overcrowd each other or they'll get soggy. Cook in two batches if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I cook chicken nuggets for in the air fryer?

Chicken nuggets are ready in a flash in the air fryer – you just need to cook them for 4 minutes per side (8 minutes total). Make sure you cook them in a single layer so they cook evenly.

Can I cook them from frozen?

Yes! You can reheat cooked frozen chicken nuggets in the air fryer, you’ll just have to add to the cooking time. Instead of 4 minutes per side, I’d suggest popping them in for 6-7 minutes per side.

Can I make them dairy-free or gluten-free?

There are a few easy swaps that will make these chicken nuggets dairy-free. Just make vegan buttermilk using your favorite plant-based milk and lemon juice, and swap out the parmesan for nutritional yeast. To make them gluten-free, use panko, cornflakes or rice cereal instead of breadcrumbs.

What's the best type of chicken to use?

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are the most common and leanest choice. Chicken thighs also work and will yield juicier nuggets, but they'll have a higher fat content.

What to serve with chicken nuggets

Here are some of my favorite ways to serve these nuggets:

How to store and reheat

Store: Keep the chicken nuggets in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

Reheat: Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Arrange nuggets in a single layer and heat for 3-5 minutes until warmed through.

Freeze & reheat from frozen: Lay cooled nuggets on a baking sheet, and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer-safe bag and store for up to 2 months. To reheat, air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway.

Chicken sandwich tips & variations

This classic chicken sandwich recipe is super easy to customize. Here are some of my top tips and variations:

  • Try different toppings: Cheese, bacon, avocado slices, chili, pickled jalapenos, pico de gallo, BBQ sauce, McDonald's Big Mac sauce and ranch would all be delicious.
  • Add more seasonings: Spice up your chicken by adding more seasonings to the dry mixture like garlic powder, onion powder, celery seed, mustard seed and more.
  • Serve with sides: Enjoy this burger on its own or with sides like In-N-Out animal style fries, tater tots, sweet potato salad, corn on the cob and more.
  • Make them gluten-free: The traditional Wendy's burgers are breaded in wheat flour and spices, which means it's not gluten-free. For a gluten-free version, swap out the breadcrumbs for cornmeal and serve the burgers in gluten-free buns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories are in Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich?

According to the restaurant's website, there are 500 calories in the Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich. When you make the sandwiches yourself, you'll be using whole ingredients instead of the complex ingredients listed on Wendy's website like wheat dextrose and sodium phosphates. You'll be enjoying a healthier sandwich with whole ingredients, with just 405 calories per serving.

Is it really spicy?

This Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich recipe is definitely spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. If you want the sandwich to be less spicy, cut down on the amount of tabasco sauce you soak the chicken in.

Can you make it in the oven or on the stovetop instead?

Yes! To cook the chicken in the oven, place it onto a greased baking sheet or a wire rack on top of a sheet pan, then bake for 10-12 mins at 450°F (flip halfway through if desired). If you're making it in a skillet, heat up 2 tablespoons of cooking oil like vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, then fry the chicken for 5 mins per side.

Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Storing and reheating

These sandwiches are outrageously good, so unless you intentionally make a large batch, I doubt you’ll have any leftovers. If you do, transfer the chicken patties to an airtight container or a Ziploc bag and store them in the fridge for up to 5 days.

The best way to reheat breaded chicken patties is on a baking sheet in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit and bake them for 15 to 20 minutes until warmed through. You can also reheat them in the Air Fryer, but the chicken may lose some of its juiciness. The microwave can be used in a pinch, but it makes the chicken rubbery.

Once you’ve reheated the chicken, assemble your Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich with all your favourite toppings and dig in!

Freezing the chicken

The cooked chicken patties freeze beautifully, so feel free to make a double batch for some easy meal prep! Once frozen, they’ll last in the freezer for up to 4 months.

Make sure the patties have cooled before you transfer them to freezer-safe Ziploc bags. To make sure the patties don’t stick together, place a layer of wax paper or parchment between each patty.

Let them defrost in the fridge overnight then reheat as normal! You can also try reheating them directly from frozen in the oven or the Air Fryer.

Serving suggestions

You can enjoy these fries on their own as a snack, or as part of a main course. Here are some of my favourite ways to serve these delicious jicama fries:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is jicama and where do you find it?

Jicama is a root vegetable in the same family of legumes and taproots. It’s a starchy vegetable that looks a lot like celery root and turnips. You can normally find it in the international product section of the grocery store, typically where the turnips, celery root and other root vegetables are.

Does it taste like potatoes?

Jicama has a very mild flavour, which makes it a great substitute for potatoes, especially when you’re making jicama fries. The slight taste that the jicama vegetable has is a sweeter and nuttier taste than potatoes but the texture of it is still starchy making it a great alternative to potatoes.

Can you use different seasonings?

Yes! You can use any seasonings of your choice on these fries for different flavor variations. Try experimenting with different spices like paprika, cumin, cayenne, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder and more.

How do you make them crispy?

Cooking them in the air fryer will help make these fries crispy. Make sure you also microwave them in water beforehand and rinse them well to remove any excess starch.

Are they keto friendly?

These keto jicama fries are great for a low-carb, keto diet, since jicama contains less carbs than other starchy vegetables (like traditional potato fries or sweet potato fries).

Low Carb Jicama Fries

Storing and reheating

You can store any leftover jicama fries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. The best way to reheat them is in the air fryer or the oven for about 10 minutes until they get nice and crispy. I wouldn’t recommend using the microwave, as they’ll get soggy, and no one wants soggy fries!

Freezing this recipe

You can definitely freeze this recipe, but I recommend freezing the raw jicama fries before baking them. Flash-freeze them on a parchment-lined sheet pan, then transfer them to a Ziploc bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to make your air fryer jicama fries, just add them to the air fryer and cook as normal or bake them in the oven.

Recipe tips & Variations

Here are some of my top tips and variations for these boneless buffalo wings:

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best way to cook boneless wings?

While some recipes call for cooking boneless wings in the deep fryer, that's a super unhealthy way to cook them. I prefer to make them in a skillet on the stovetop or in the air fryer. You still get that amazing flavor and crunch, but without all the extra calories.

What cut of chicken is best?

I personally like making these wings with boneless skinless chicken breasts. You can try making them with boneless skinless chicken thighs, but they'll have a higher calorie count.

Is a boneless wing just a chicken nugget?

These boneless chicken wings are really similar to breaded chicken nuggets. Since it would be very difficult to remove the bone from a wing given how tiny they are, boneless breast meat is cut into bite-sized pieces instead. Then, the meat is seasoned, breaded and cooked to resemble traditional wings.

Can you make the wings ahead of time?

If you're planning on making these boneless wings for a party, I'd recommend cooking and freezing the wings ahead of time. That way, you can just pop them in the air fryer or the oven right from frozen. You could also cook them and store them in the fridge the night before, but they might not be as crispy when you reheat them the next day.

How to Make Boneless Wings

Storing and reheating

Keep any leftover boneless wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. It’s best to store any extra sauce separately so the wings don’t get soggy.

To reheat, pop the wings in the Air Fryer until warmed through. It can help to start them at a lower temperature, then increase it after a few minutes to get the skin nice and crispy again. You could also try reheating your wings in the oven at 400° Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes.

Freezing this recipe

For a quick and easy appetizer, freeze the boneless wings for up to 3 months. Allow them to cool, then spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about an hour, then transfer the chicken wings to a Ziploc bag and freeze.

When you're ready to enjoy your wings, you can reheat them straight from frozen in the air fryer or the oven for 10 to 15 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit.

A platter with a bunch of air fryer hot honey chicken tenders, celery, carrots and ranch dressing placed next to a bowl of hot honey.

Ingredients for air fryer chicken tenders: chicken tenders, cornflakes, flour, buttermilk, cooking spray, paprika, garlic powder, chili flakes, carrots, celery, honey and buffalo sauce.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Chicken tenders – you can buy tenders pre-cut at the store or cut two chicken breasts into four pieces each.
  • Flour – swap out for a gluten-free flour of your choice. Potato starch or arrow root would also be good.
  • Buttermilk – mayo or egg will help coat the chicken if you don’t have any buttermilk.
  • Crushed cornflakes – panko breadcrumbs can be used instead.
  • Paprika – cayenne will provide a similar flavour but has more of a kick.
  • Garlic powder – swap out for onion powder or garlic salt. If you’re using garlic salt, go easy on the rest of the salt in the recipe.
  • Salt & pepper – to taste.
  • Cooking spray – you’ll need this to coat the air fryer.
  • Carrots – serve your tenders with another veggie of your choice.
  • Celery stalks – see substitution notes above for carrots.

Hot honey sauce

  • Honey – the honey is the star of this recipe. You could try making the sauce with agave or maple syrup, but it won’t have the same flavour.
  • Buffalo sauce – add in more if you want your sauce to be spicier. You could even try using hot sauce for more of a kick.
  • Chili flakes – these are optional so feel free to skip them if you don't have any on hand.

How to serve these chicken tenders

Here are some of my favourite ways to serve these hot honey chicken tenders:

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make chicken tenders crispy?

The air fryer is a great way to make chicken tenders super crispy. Instead of deep frying the chicken, you’ll coat it in flour, buttermilk and crushed cornflakes, then pop it in the air fryer. It tastes just like your favourite fast food but with way less calories!

Is the sauce spicy?

The hot honey sauce definitely has a bit of a kick to it, but you can adjust the amount of buffalo sauce and chili flakes depending on your spice tolerance.

Can you make them as chicken nuggets?

If you want to turn these hot honey chicken tenders into hot honey chicken nuggets, you can! It's super easy. Just cut the chicken into nugget-sized pieces, and bread as normal. You'll likely need to reduce the cooking time by a few minutes, so keep an eye on the nuggets to ensure they don't overcook.

Why are my chicken tenders dry?

If you find that your chicken tenders are dry, you likely cooked them for too long. They only need to cook for 5-7 minutes per side in the air fryer, and 7-8 minutes per side in the oven. You can use a meat thermometer to make sure your chicken is cooked through.

What other sauces can you use?

While this recipe is for honey hot chicken tenders, you can serve them with pretty much any dipping sauce of your choice. More popular options include homemade ranch, BBQ sauce, store-bought plum sauce or honey mustard sauce.

A close-up of a air fryer hot honey chicken tender being dipped in ranch dressing.

Storing and reheating

If you happen to have any leftover hot honey chicken tenders, you can store them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Reheat them in the air fryer or in the oven to help them stay nice and crispy! Just stick them back in the air fryer for 5 minutes or reheat them in the oven for 10 minutes at 375° Fahrenheit. You could also reheat them in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, they’ll just lose their crispiness.

Freezing this recipe

You can freeze these cooked honey hot chicken tenders for up to 3 months. Stick them on a tray in the freezer for an hour first to flash freeze them so they don’t stick together. Then, transfer the tenders to an airtight container or Ziploc bag and freeze.

When you’re ready to enjoy your tenders, pop them in the air fryer right from frozen for 5 to 7 minutes per side. Drizzle with the hot honey sauce and dig in!

Air Fryer instructions

  • Add flour, paprika and garlic powder to a bowl, mixing to combine. Add buttermilk to another bowl and crushed cornflakes to another bowl. Ingredients and substitutions

  • Brussels sprouts – fresh brussels sprouts are best, but frozen can be used as well.
  • Olive oil – any neutral oil such as grape seed oil, canola oil or avocado oil can be used as a substitution for olive oil.
  • Salt & pepper – to taste.
  • Balsamic vinegar – red wine vinegar mixed with maple syrup or a balsamic vinaigrette can be used as in place of balsamic vinegar.
  • Honey – agave syrup, maple syrup or brown sugar syrup can be used in place of honey.
  • Garlic – use fresh or jarred minced garlic. Garlic powder can be used in a pinch but fresh garlic is recommended.
  • Parmesan cheese – nutritional yeast is a great dairy-free alternative to parmesan cheese, otherwise asiago cheese can be used in place of parmesan cheese.

Tips for the best brussels sprouts

Here are some of my top tips to ensure you get the crispiest and most flavourful brussels sprouts:

  • Cut them into evenly sized small pieces.
  • Make sure they're evenly coated in olive oil with a shiny look before cooking.
  • To make them crispy on the outside but tender on the inside, soak them in water for 10 minutes before cooking.
  • If you want them to be even sweeter, mix the olive oil with a bit of brown sugar before tossing the brussels sprouts.
  • Make sure you use fresh garlic! You'll get way better flavour than if you use garlic powder.
  • If you're using frozen brussels sprouts, cook them for longer.
  • Turn them into a brussels sprouts salad or use any leftovers for any one of these delicious brussels sprouts recipes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use frozen brussels sprouts?

I normally use fresh brussels sprouts for this recipe, but you can definitely try using frozen brussels sprouts. You'll likely need to increase the cooking time.

What do you serve them with?

You can serve these garlic parmesan brussels sprouts with pretty much any protein! It'd be great with this sausage skillet or this chicken bacon ranch pasta. You could also serve it with baked chicken breast or grilled salmon. The options are endless!

Can you make this recipe dairy free?

Yes you can! If you're looking for a dairy free or vegan option, you can swap out the parmesan cheese for nutritional yeast.

Why won't my brussels sprouts get crispy?

Make sure your brussels sprouts are completely dry before tossing them in olive oil and adding them to the air fryer! If they're still wet from being washed, they'll steam instead of getting nice and crispy.

Can you make them in the oven?

While this recipe is for the air fryer, you can definitely make them in the oven as well. Toss them in the olive oil, salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar, honey and garlic, then cook them in the oven on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10-12 minutes at 450° F, tossing halfway through.

Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

Storing and reheating

Store these garlic parmesan brussels sprouts in a glass container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, I'd recommend sticking them in the oven for about 10 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 350° Fahrenheit, or reheating them in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes at 350° Fahrenheit. Sprinkle with some more parmesan then serve! Technically, you can reheat them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, but they'll get soggy.

Can you freeze brussels sprouts?

This air fryer balsamic brussels sprouts recipe is definitely freezer-friendly! You can freeze the brussels sprouts either cooked or uncooked. Here are the instructions for both options:

  • Cooked: Let them cool to room temperature, then freeze them in a glass bowl or Ziploc bag for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet on the stovetop or in the oven following the instructions above.
  • Uncooked: Blanch or boil the brussels sprouts in water, dry them completely, then freeze them in a glass bowl or Ziploc bag for up to 6 months. Let them defrost, then cook as normal.

Note that if you use frozen brussels sprouts for this recipe, you cannot re-freeze them.

A plate of air fryer zucchini fries with one being dipped into garlic aioli.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Zucchini – you can even buy pre-cut zucchini at the grocery store.
  • Flour – to make these gluten-free, you can swap out the regular flour for almond flour.
  • Eggs – use a cornstarch slurry to dredge the fries instead.
  • Panko breadcrumbs – regular breadcrumbs or tempura flakes would work too.
  • Parmesan cheese – nutritional yeast is the best substitute here.
  • Garlic powder, onion powder and paprika – feel free to try out different seasoning options like ranch seasoning or Italian seasoning to give your fries different flavours (check out all my spice blends here).
  • Salt & pepper – to taste.

Homemade garlic aioli

  • Sunflower oil – or another neutral cooking oil like grapeseed oil or canola oil.
  • Soy milk – I’d highly recommend soy milk, as it helps emulsify the aioli.
  • Garlic – freshly minced or jarred minced garlic are best. Garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
  • Lemon juice – use fresh or bottled lemon juice.
  • Honey – maple syrup or agave would also be good here.
  • Salt – to taste.

What goes with zucchini fries?

You can serve these zucchini fries as a yummy snack, appetizer or side dish! If you’re looking for ideas on what to serve them with, here are some ideas:

The options are pretty much endless. These fries go with everything!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you cut zucchini for fries?

For these air fryer zucchini fries, I’d recommend cutting the zucchini into ½ inch strips. Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise, then cut each quarter lengthwise again. Continue that process until you get the right size thickness of fries! Remember, the skinnier the fries, the thicker they’ll be.

Can you make them in advance?

These fries are best enjoyed fresh. Since zucchini is made of 95% water, they can get soggy the longer they sit. If you want to make this recipe for a party or game day, I’d suggest prepping everything beforehand by mixing together the dry ingredients and cutting up the zucchini. That way, all you have to do is coat the zucchini, air fry it and voila!

How do you keep the zucchini from getting soggy when frying?

Coating the zucchini in the dry mixture, egg and breadcrumbs will help make the fries nice and crispy. The air fryer is also a great way to get crispy fries every time – just make sure you cook the fries in a single layer.

Can you make them gluten-free?

With just a few simple swaps, you can easily make these zucchini fries gluten-free. Just substitute the regular flour for almond flour, and the panko breadcrumbs for gluten-free breadcrumbs or even tempura flakes.

Can you make them in the oven?

I find using the air fryer makes these zucchini fries extra crispy, but if you don’t have an air fryer, you can try baking them in the oven in a single layer at 425° Fahrenheit for 20 to 25 minutes.

A close-up of a plate of air fryer zucchini fries, with one being dipped in garlic aioli.

Storing and reheating

These zucchini fries are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit or in the oven for 8 minutes at 425° Fahrenheit. Keep in mind that zucchini has a high water content, so the leftover fries won’t be as crispy when you reheat them.

You can store the homemade garlic aioli in the fridge for up to 5 days in a glass container or mason jar. It’s a delicious dipping sauce for fries, fresh veggies and more!

Can you freeze zucchini fries?

No, I wouldn’t recommend freezing zucchini fries, as the zucchini will get soggy when defrosting.

  • Olive oil – or another neutral cooking oil like canola or avocado oil.
  • Chickpeas – you could also try using this recipe to make crispy lentils.
  • Spice blend – I like to use chili powder, cumin, paprika and garlic powder, but there are a variety of spice combinations you can try.
  • Salt & pepper – to taste.

How to make chickpeas in the air fryer

Steps 1 and 2 for air fryer chickpeas: Season chickpeas, cook in air fryer.

Steps 3 and 4: Shake basket halfway through then serve or store.

Step 3: Air fry the chickpeas.

What to make with chickpeas

These air fryer chickpeas make a great snack on your own, but there are tons of other ways you can use them for a main dish. Here are some ideas on how to serve them:

  • In a salad – Sprinkle them over top of a salad for some extra crunch or use them in place of chicken for a plant-based protein option, like in my Chili’s Santa Fe Salad.
  • In a buddle bowl – On their own or with other plant-based protein options. These buddha bowls are super customizable!
  • In a wrap – Substitute the chicken for crispy chickpeas in my homemade shawarma wraps or make your own using your favourite veggies and spreads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my chickpeas popping in the air fryer?

Don’t worry if you hear a popping noise while your air fryer chickpeas are cooking – that’s perfectly normally. It’s similar to when you’re making popcorn and you hear the kernels pop!

Why aren't they crispy?

The air fryer is a great way to ensure that your chickpeas get nice and crispy. With most roasted chickpea recipes, you need to dry the chickpeas before cooking them, but when you use the air fryer, that step is eliminated! That being said, you can also pat-dry the chickpeas with paper towel if you so choose.

How long do you cook them for?

For this roasted chickpeas air fryer recipe, you’ll need to cook the chickpeas for 15 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit, shaking the basket halfway through.

How healthy are roasted chickpeas?

These air fryer chickpeas are super healthy. They’re a great source of plant-based protein in addition to being a great source of nutrients and fibre.

An overhead shot of an air fryer with crispy chickpeas in a bowl in front of it.

Storing roasted chickpeas

Store these air fryer chickpeas in a Ziploc bag or airtight glass container for up to 7 days. I like to make a big batch and keep them around for snacking or for a salad topper! There’s no need to stick them in the fridge – you can just leave them out on the counter at room temperature.

Freezing this recipe

You can try freezing this roasted chickpeas air fryer recipe, but they likely won’t have the same texture after being frozen and defrosted. I’d recommend just making them from scratch for the best results.

These Air Fryer Chicken Breasts are so juicy and tender – you'll love the easy marinade! Serve them in a salad or with your favourite sides.

A plate with one whole air fryer chicken breast and another one that has been sliced.

Ingredients for air fryer chicken breasts: chicken breasts, garlic powder, paprika, olive oil, fresh rosemary, salt and pepper.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts – you could try making this recipe with boneless skinless chicken thighs, but cooking time may vary.
  • Olive oil – or another neutral cooking oil such as avocado or canola oil.
  • Fresh rosemary – use 1 tsp. dried rosemary instead.
  • Garlic powder – freshly minced garlic or even onion powder would be a good substitute here.
  • Paprika – cayenne can be used in a pinch but it’ll have more of a kick.
  • Salt & pepper – to taste.
  • Parsley – leave this off if you don’t have any on hand. It’s not mandatory but just makes for a great garnish!

Optional salad

  • Romaine lettuce – swap out for another lettuce of your choice like iceberg or butter head lettuce.
  • Avocado – substitute for another vegetable of your choice.
  • Corn – see substitution notes above.
  • Cucumber – see substitution notes above.
  • Red pepper – see substitution notes above.
  • Tortilla strips – leave these off for a low-carb alternative or try adding some wonton strips or croutons for a bit of crunch.
  • Store-bought dressing – I like using a Caesar, ranch or Italian dressing, but you can use any dressing of your choice. Feel free to make your own homemade dressing too!

How to cook chicken breast in the air fryer

Steps 1 and 2 for making air fryer chicken breasts: marinate chicken then cook in the air fryer.

Step 1: Season the chicken.

Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, rub chicken breasts with olive oil, rosemary, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.

Step 2: Cook in the air fryer.

Add breasts to the air fryer, cooking at 400 degrees.

Steps 3 and 4 for making air fryer chicken breasts: flip chicken breasts and cook on the other side, then let rest before cutting and serving.

Step 3: Flip halfway through.

For large breasts, cook for 10 minutes per side. For medium breasts, cook for 8 minutes per side. For small breasts, cook 6-7 minutes per side.

Step 4: Slice and serve!

Let the chicken rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain. Meanwhile, prepare the salad or desired side dishes then serve sliced chicken alongside. Enjoy!

The best chicken breast marinade

When it comes to making marinated chicken breast in the air fryer, it all starts with one thing – a good marinade! I used a super easy and flavourful marinade that’s made with pantry staples you probably already have lying around at home. Just mix all these ingredients together:

  • Olive oil
  • Fresh or dried rosemary
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Rub it over the chicken breasts, cook and voila!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to cook chicken breast in an air fryer?

The cooking time for marinated chicken in the air fryer will vary based on the size of the chicken breasts. Cook larger breasts for 10 minutes per side (20 minutes total), and cook smaller breasts for 6-7 minutes per side (12-14 minutes total).

How do you keep it from drying out?

The olive oil in this chicken breast marinade will prevent the meat from drying out while it cooks in the air fryer. Plus, using the air fryer in general is a great way to get juicy chicken every single time!

Can you put in raw chicken?

Yes! For this marinated chicken breast air fryer recipe, you’ll add the raw chicken breasts right to the basket – no need to pre-cook or pan fry first.

What do you serve on the side?

When you make marinated chicken in the air fryer, you’ll have plenty of other time to focus on your side dishes. I normally keep things simple with a side salad, but chicken goes with just about anything. Serve this dish with a side of rice, steamed or roasted veggies, mac and cheese, glazed carrots and more.

A close-up of cooked chicken breasts in an air fryer.

Storing and reheating

Making marinated chicken breast in the air fryer is a great meal prep option in addition to being a quick weeknight dinner. You can store any leftover chicken in the fridge in an airtight glass container for 3 to 4 days. When you’re ready to enjoy, you can just stick the chicken right back into the air fryer!

Reheat it for 3 to 5 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit then serve with a fresh salad. You could also reheat it in the microwave if you’re in a hurry or on the go – just make sure to sprinkle some water over top first so the chicken doesn’t dry out.

Freezing this recipe

You can freeze the chicken either fully cooked or raw in the marinade for up to 3 months in freezer-safe containers or Ziploc bags. If you’re freezing cooked chicken, make sure it’s cooled completely before packing it up and sticking it in the freezer.

Let the chicken defrost in the fridge overnight then cook or reheat as normal. You could also try reheating the cooked marinated chicken breast in the air fryer from frozen for 10 minutes per side at 400° Fahrenheit.

This Crispy Air Fryer Tofu is so delicious! Serve it alongside broccoli, rice and bang bang sauce for a satisfying plant-based meal.

Two plates of air fryer tofu served alongside rice and broccoli.

Ingredients for air fryer tofu: tofu, light mayo, right, cornstarch, sesame seeds, green onions, sweet chili sauce, broccoli, and sriracha.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Extra-firm tofu – tempeh might also work for this recipe.
  • Cornstarch – use potato starch or arrowroot instead.

Bang bang sauce

  • Light mayo – use regular mayo if it’s all you have on hand.
  • Sweet chili sauce – make your own using a combination of hot sauce and honey.
  • Sriracha – sambal oelek would also be good or you can swap out for another hot sauce of your choice.

Rice

  • Jasmine rice – serve this dish with any rice like brown rice.
  • Butter – margarine or olive oil would also help make the rice nice and moist.

To serve

  • Broccoli – swap out for another veggie like cauliflower, roasted red peppers or carrots.
  • Green onions – chives would also work here.
  • Sesame seeds – use black or white sesame seeds, or a combination of the two.

How to make crispy tofu

Steps 1 and 2 for making air fryer tofu: Press the tofu then cut it up.

Step 1: Squeeze moisture out of the tofu.

Add block of tofu to a large plate in between two clean kitchen towels. Add a heavy object such as a large textbook over tofu to squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Meanwhile, add all ingredients under rice heading to a rice cooker or pot on the stove and cook until cooked through, about 20 minutes.

Step 2: Slice up the tofu.

Preheat air fryer to 400 F for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, take tofu and cut into 1-inch cubes.

Steps 3 and 4 for making air fryer tofu: Coat the tofu in cornstarch and air fry.

Step 3: Toss in the cornstarch.

Carefully toss with cornstarch in a large bowl.

Step 4: Cook in the air fryer.

Add to air fryer in a single layer. Spray with cooking spray, season liberally with salt and pepper, then cook for 15 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking time.

Steps 5 and 6 for making air fryer tofu: Coat tofu in sauce and serve with rice and broccoli.

Step 5: Toss the tofu in the bang bang sauce.

While tofu cooks, add broccoli florets to a bowl of water and microwave for 8-10 minutes before draining. Then, mix all ingredients under bang bang sauce heading together in a large bowl and set aside. Remove tofu from air fryer, then toss in the large bowl with the bang bang sauce.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy!

Serve tofu over cooked rice with broccoli, garnishing with green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Enjoy!

Is tofu good for you?

Tofu is a super healthy, plant-based protein option. It’s made of condensed soy milk and is packed full of important nutrients including calcium, manganese, copper, selenium, iron and magnesium. It’s also relatively low in calories compared to other proteins, so it’s a great option if you’re trying to stick to a lower-calorie diet.

Like all foods, tofu is only as healthy as how you prepare it. By air frying tofu, you’ll still get that amazing crispiness without having to deep fry it and pack on the calories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you cook tofu in the air fryer?

Air fryer tofu only needs to cook in the oven for 15 minutes at 400° Fahrenheit. Make sure you toss the tofu halfway through the cooking time so it gets crispy all the way around and cooks evenly!

How long do you press it for?

Before air frying tofu, you’ll need to press out all the excess moisture. Add it to a large plate between two clean kitchen towels, then add a heavy object over top (like a textbook) so all the liquid is pressed out. It can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to get all the moisture out, but since this recipe uses extra-firm tofu, it shouldn’t take too long.

What temperature do you cook it at?

This air fried tofu needs to cook at 400° Fahrenheit to get that nice crispy finish.

How do you make crispy tofu?

Air frying tofu is a great way to get it super crispy! Since you’re not frying it in oil or batter, you’re cutting down on the calorie count while still getting the tofu nice and crispy. I’d also recommend using extra-firm tofu and squeezing out as much excess moisture as possible. The drier the tofu, the crispier it’ll get.

A close-up of a plate of air fryer tofu with rice and broccoli on the side.

Storing and reheating

You can store any leftover air fryer tofu in the fridge for 4 to 5 days in an airtight glass container. I’d recommend waiting to toss the tofu in the bang bang sauce until right before you’re about to eat it, so the leftovers last longer! When you’re ready to enjoy your tofu, reheat it in a pan on the stovetop or pop it back in the air fryer to get it nice and crispy again. Toss it in the sauce, then serve and enjoy!

Freezing this recipe

I wouldn’t recommend freezing any air fried tofu after it’s been cooked, because it won’t defrost well. However, you can freeze any extra raw tofu you might have to use at a later date. After draining the excess moisture out, transfer the tofu to a freezer-safe Ziploc bag or airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Let it defrost in the fridge overnight, squeeze out any excess moisture then cook as normal.

Storing and reheating

You can store any leftover air fryer asparagus in the fridge for 2 to 3 days in an airtight glass container. When you’re ready to enjoy, just pop the asparagus back in the air fryer for about 3 minutes until warmed through. Easy-peasy!

Freezing this recipe

While I wouldn’t recommend freezing this air fryer asparagus after it’s been cooked, you can freeze fresh asparagus to use later. This is a great option if you have a big batch that you won’t use all at once! Blanch the asparagus then flash-freeze it on a tray before transferring it to a Ziploc bag. It should last in the freezer for up to 6 months.

You won’t have to worry about defrosting the asparagus, since it can be cooked right from frozen. Toss it in the air fryer to reheat, add on your favourite seasonings and dig in.

  • Grated cheddar cheese – swap out for another cheese of your choice like Monterey Jack or a Tex Mex blend.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a potato take to bake in an air fryer?

A potato will take 30 minutes to bake in the air fryer at 400° Fahrenheit. Make sure to flip the potatoes halfway through so they cook evenly!

Do you have to pierce it first?

No, you don’t need to pierce the potatoes before cooking them in the air fryer. You can if you want, but it really just comes down to a matter of preference.

Why isn't it getting crispy?

When you bake your potatoes in the oven, there’s always a risk that they won’t turn out as crispy as you’d like them to be. By cooking them in the air fryer, they’ll turn out perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Storing and reheating

Store your baked potatoes without any of the toppings for up to 5 days. The best way to reheat them is to pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes or reheat them in the oven at 350° Fahrenheit.

Can you freeze baked potatoes?

Yes! You can definitely freeze baked potatoes to use for later. Let them flash freeze for about an hour first on a tray so that they don’t stick together, then store them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to enjoy, you can cook them right from frozen either in the air fryer or in the oven. Add on your favourite toppings then dig in!
